The classic Pied Piper character jug was designed by Geoff Blower in 1954. The main edition has three rats at the top of handle. There is a very rare prototype version created which features a single white rat at the top, as well as different colouring. I think it looks great but apparently it was thought too mouse like rather than rat like.
The original Pied Piper has a black hat and red and yellow short with red and yellow collars. Two of the white rat variants have been sold at auction in the past few years (2019 and 2022). Both were sold at Potteries Auction.
The one sold in 2022 has a red /brown hat, a red and yellow shirt with a white collar, and the Pied Piper himself has blonde hair. It was sold for £2,600 at Potteries Auction in July 2022. A second version sold in 2019 has a white hat, a red and yellow shirt with a white collar, and the Pied Piper himself has blonde hair. It was sold for £2,100 at Potteries Auction in March 2019.
